by RazRez ContributorGlobal warming has affected the whole world in big ways, like having a warmer climate and more calamities. But scientists are now considering two options: remove carbon dioxide in the air or put lots of sulfur in the atmosphere. The first option has severe effects on marine life, so the second is being considered more. The sulfur idea was gotten from the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, which cooled the Earth by 0.9 degree Fahrenheit.
It will take billions of dollars a year to do this. Military jets will have to fly over the atmosphere to put these chemicals. There will also be negative effects in doing this option. Droughts will frequent Africa and Asia, oceans will become more acidic, and solar energy will be less productive. And the blue skies everyone loves? Since putting aerosol in the atmosphere will fog the skies, scientists say the sky will rarely be blue.
The Institute of Physics is against this alternative. Efforts are being made to stop global warming, but with this new option available, governments will no longer be firm with the policies regarding climate change. Geoengineering should only be used when we no longer have any choice. Otherwise, it is better to stick with how nature does things.
